Invert it to make a moan or groan. A slightly unsubtle but fun way to let participants know theirs is the wrong answer perhaps?

I admit to wanting these even though I wasn’t sure how I’d use them. 5 star appeal! During the formation of the contract at the beginning of the programme, the participants decided to use them as ‘sonic nudges’. So we heard the groan tubes instead of, “You’re taking too long – get on with it” and “Wrong answer!” and “I’m-not-sure-I-feel-comfortable-with-that-technique” (always accompanied by broad smiles and chuckles. All men in their 30s and 40s, and all without children. They didn’t need excuses – they said they’d use them in the same way in their ‘proper jobs’.

Some fiddle toys are best used simply for fiddling and I left these out for a group the other day and they did exactly what you’d expect. Picked them up, turned them upside down and giggled at the noise. I am thinking of using them when timing activities to announce the end, rather than just using my voice.

I haven’t yet used the Groan Tube I ordered in a training session but already news of me having one seems to have spread through the office like wild fire! They are all intrigued as to how I am going to use it and when. My plan is to have a game of two teams and one will be given the Groan Tube to use when they want to answer a question. I can see already that it will be well received and should help get a laugh during heavy topics.
