Complete Team Challenge: Financial Bottle!!
"Financial Bottle!!" is a task that looks simple but  involves teamwork, planning, budgeting and measuring performance against a plan. It creates a real buzz when teams compete against each other.

How does it work?
The activity starts with a simple-looking construction task but each team has some serious planning to do. They must work out material costs, construction time, resources required and lodge a profit forecast before they start the task. Then it's a case of building their structure within time and budget if they can, measuring themselves against their original forecast!
When you have a number of teams competing against each other and the clock, it's a really high energy fun challenge!

Complete Team Challenge: Pressure Plates!!
"Pressure Plates!!" is an activity involving planning, communication and teamwork at speed. It has a real physical element to it that teams enjoy and has the added advantage of being able to run it indoors or out depending on your circumstances.

How does it work?
The team is provided with a series of numbered "plates" and given 5 timed attempts at a specific task. The activity has to be completed in a shorter time on each attempt. All team members are engaged in planning the task but not all take part. This raises questions of selecting the right people for the task, being clear on what is to be achieved and trusting that they will deliver.
Most teams make a radical transformation in their performance during the activity.
When you have a number of teams competing against each other and the clock, it's a real fun challenge!

Complete Team Challenge: Wide Angle!!
What is it?
"Wide Angle!!" is a challenge involving planning, strategy communication and teamwork. It requires a great deal of thought, a good memory, and fabulous communication skills. It's great for teams that don't always work together, or who need to work on their communication.

How does it work?
The team has to plan how they will retrieve information from a jumbled set of provided props placed indoors or outdoors. They must work collaboratively to understand the sequence of the information and put it in the right order. The sequence isn't immediately obvious, but there is a right answer provided! The information is positioned away from the team, and the team must nominate "visitors" to examine the props and bring information back to the "control room". Communication restrictions are out on the team when they are apart, and they can only communicate effectively when they are together, much like a "virtual team" in real life.

What do you get for your money?
Each "Wide Angle!!" challenge comes in a silver attache case with all of the equipment you need to run the activity for up to 3 teams.
The facilitator guide, handouts, PowerPoint slides, Evaluation sheets and Action plans are provided on a CD and can be re-used and re-printed as often as you like. There are no copyright restrictions on how often you use the materials provided, so you can run this activity as often as you like!

On Thursday 02 September 2010 my colleague John Owen and myself facilitated a Team Manager Away Day. The outcomes from the day were: To work together as a team, to be honest and open, to share knowledge, to use the best person for the job and to be motivated and fired up Team Managers. As you can imagine, it was a very busy day with lots of discussion and group work. We started at 08.30 and finished at 17:00, we had 9 Team Managers and their Section Manager also. It soon became apparent that although the team was more than capable of achieving the above outcomes, the pressures of work was preventing them. There was a lot of debate and ideas about going forward and by the end of the day they were happy with what they had achieved but were in need of a ‘lift’ to finish on a really happy note and to bring together all of their hard work – which is were the Huffin Puffin game came in. Their faces were an absolute picture when they realised what was involved and most of them thought it couldn’t be achieved! They set to and worked out a plan (strategy planning) talked about who was the best person for each job (communication, sharing knowledge, using the best person for the job) and finally worked together and both teams successfully completed the task! (team work). We did make it a bit more amusing by asking one team to go first and the other watched and everyone ‘counted down’ the 20 seconds (we also made it interesting by stepping in and when the count down was at 18, we burst a few balloons – just for fun!). When it was the second team’s turn, we did the same thing – but one of the team burst some of their balloons! It’s a very easy game to understand but one that is very effective and great fun to do.
